Project Scope
BMWC contracted with a longtime General Contractor partner to execute the mechanical and process piping scopes of work on a semiconductor facility expansion and buildout project in Hillsboro, OR. BMWC’s early involvement in preconstruction activities, which included scope development, work package development, schedule development, and construction execution sequencing, led to the successful delivery of the $62M mechanical piping scope of work.
The 24-month project was divided between two buildings. BMWC’s scope of work included off-site fabrication and installation of chilled water, tertiary water, and other utility system piping throughout the building. BMWC’s work in the other building included off-site fabrication and installation of all mechanical, process, and high-purity piping systems and associated equipment. BMWC’s direct-hire scope also included instrumentation and commissioning. The project involved 320,000 craft hours, with a peak workforce of 110 pipefitters. BMWC’s focus on safety resulted in zero recordable injuries.
Off-site fabrication and early project involvement were critical to the project’s success. BMWC utilized their Portland, OR fabrication facility for all high-purity piping fabrication and a Midwest fabrication facility for the large-bore utility and process piping. In total, BMWC installed over 110,000 linear feet of piping. BMWC’s project structure, effective planning, and commitment to safety and quality contributed to its success.
