Project Scope
After selling their rolling mill and associated assets, Alcoa needed to separate plant utilities since they retained ownership of the smelter at the same facility. BMWC contracted with Alcoa to execute the complex splitting of plant utilities between the two companies. BMWC’s scope of work included electrical, civil, and mechanical work. At peak, BMWC’s direct-hire craftspeople totaled 50. The project involved structural steel erection, foundation work, high and medium-voltage electrical installations, cable tie-ins, piping, painting, insulation, and roofing. BMWC direct-hired the mechanical and electrical scopes of work and partnered with subcontractors for the civil, painting, insulation, and roofing scopes.
In total, BMWC executed 150,000 craft hours. In addition to the on-site scopes of work, BMWC was responsible for pre-fabricating all the piping, pipe racks, and cable trays. The off-site fabrication scope of work took place in BMWC’s Indianapolis fabrication facility. Despite minor delays associated with design changes, the project was completed on schedule, demonstrating BMWC’s ability to manage complex installations and deliver high-quality results in a dynamic and changing environment.
