Project Scope
An international chemical manufacturer in Morris, IL, sought to enhance efficiency and increase manufacturing capacity for a specialty product by installing a new extruder train and supporting mechanical piping and equipment. Line 5 was designed to become the primary production source, while the original line served as a backup. The project involved retrofitting an existing building and installing more than 60 pieces of equipment, including exchangers, blowers, mixers, heaters, pumps, tanks, and a silo. BMWC installed over 12,000 linear feet of process piping and erected 270 tons of structural steel.
BMWC was selected as the general mechanical contractor for Line 5, working closely with the client and their engineer to design, plan, schedule, and execute the project over a 13-month construction schedule. The project was completed successfully due to seamless collaboration, meticulous planning, and effective scheduling by all stakeholders, including BMWC’s subcontractors for cranes, scaffolding, coatings, insulation, and other associated trades.
The client’s leadership praised Line 5 as one of the most successful projects their management team had ever participated in. Key achievements included:
- Zero Recordable Injuries
- Successful delivery of a complex project, ensuring Line 5’s readiness to become the facility’s primary production source
