Project Scope
BMWC delivered this turnaround six days ahead of schedule and over $7M under the initial budget, achieving significant cost savings for the client. These savings were driven by BMWC’s proactive pre-turnaround work, strategic use of its Indianapolis and Northwest Indiana fabrication shops, competitive procurement for subcontractors and materials, early involvement of supervision to walk-down work packages, and an impeccable safety record.
The project schedule spanned six weeks, operating seven days a week across two shifts. The scope of work included multiple critical lifts, for which BMWC developed detailed lift plans. Each plan was reviewed by the lift director to ensure precise calculations and received management approval before execution. Safety remained a top priority, supported by daily toolbox talks, site-wide musters, and executive management visits, fostering a culture of safety that resulted in zero incidents during the 79,000 craft-hour project.
BMWC’s early involvement and integrated planning efforts were pivotal in the project’s success. These efforts, combined with a weld reject rate of just 1.2% (three welds), zero safety incidents, and an outstanding productivity rate of 0.9, prevented craft stacking and enabled the development of efficient work areas and installation packages. This project is a prime example of what can be achieved through seamless collaboration and disciplined execution by an integrated planning team.
