Project Scope

Safety, quality, productivity, and value engineering were key factors in the success of a multimillion-dollar turnaround at Nutrien’s Lima, OH, Ammonia Plant. BMWC’s scope of work included adding and tying in multiple capital expansions at the ammonia fertilizer facility, a critical project to modernize Nutrien’s processes and boost production.

As the prime contractor, BMWC self-performed all piping, structural steel, and boiler work while managing over 10 subcontractor partners. At its peak, the project had 220 craft resources. To achieve significant cost savings, BMWC leveraged its in-house virtual design team. The team recognized potential fabrication challenges and performed a laser scan of the site before fabrication, eliminating clashes and design errors. This proactive approach saved nearly 1,000 labor hours by identifying conflicts and reworking fabrication plans before field installation.

BMWC completed the project on time, delivering 250,000 craft hours of labor and ensuring a smooth and efficient turnaround.
